Jonathan Lo is unavailable to conduct this concert.

We are delighted to welcome Paul Spicer to conduct this performance of Rachmaninov Vespers.

Frequently described as Rachmaninov’s finest achievement, his setting of the All-Night Vigil Op. 37 is an a cappella choral composition first performed on March 23, 1915 in Moscow.

This beautiful and deeply spiritual work is frequently referred to as Rachmaninov’s Vespers. However, this is not technically or liturgically correct as only the first six of the fifteen movements of his All-Night Vigil set texts from the Russian Orthodox service of Vespers.
