Our musical flexibility, including the numerous talented soloists
ready to step out of the ranks of the choir and up to whatever roles
may be required of them, and our enthusiasm to immerse ourselves in
many different musical styles, means that we can (and do!) take on
projects that might overwhelm other chamber choirs. Be it modern
opera, baroque oratorio or medieval motets, our love of music and
dedication shine through in every performance.
Recent and forthcoming performances in Manchester
Chamber Choir's own concert series include music spanning several
styles and centuries. Our June 2006 concert, Rejoice in the Lamb,
featured polychoral music of the Renaissance inspired by the Church
of San Marco in Venice, complementing and contrasting with contemporary
English choral works commissioned for St Matthew's Church, Northampton;
in Spring 2006 we performed a programme on the theme of Flowers of the
Field, incorporating both the sacred - motets and a mass - and the
secular in the form of florally-inspired works by Britten and Finzi;
and our Christmas 2006 concert comprised a range of seasonal and spiritual
music including Bach's famous Cantata Wachet auf,
carols both traditional and unusual, and 20th century works such as
Poulenc's Christmas motets, music of Richard Rodney Bennett and
Finzi's In Terra Pax.
We are also often invited to participate in collaborative projects with
other arts organisations and musical groups and do so with great enthusiasm
and appreciation for the added variety and opportunities that these
performances provide. In 2006 these additional concert performances included
providing the chorus for the contemporary opera Bandanna, complete with
mariachi band; and performances of Handel's Messiah at Christchurch,
Didsbury and at Llaneffyd Parish Church in Wales to a sell-out audience.
In 2007, engagements have featured major choral works including Dream of
Gerontius, St Matthew Passion and Elijah.
As can be seen from this sample, we are daunted neither by distance nor
new and challenging repertoire! If your organisation would like to collaborate
with Manchester Chamber Choir in presenting a performance,
please contact us - we are always open to ideas.
