We have made several appearances on BBC1’s
Songs of Praise, most particularly in January 2005,
when at short notice the BBC decided to make a programme
marking the tragic tsunami of Christmas 2004. Recorded
in the crypt of Liverpool’s Catholic Cathedral,
the choir arrived and received their music at 7pm,
and by 11pm all audio and video recordings had been
completed – a rapid recording session by the
normal expectations of such processes.
The choir also has considerable experience of live
broadcasts. We frequently sing for The Daily Service on
Radio 4 and similarly for Sunday Worship. Again, the
standards, ability and flexibility of the
choir mean we can readily undertake projects at short notice,
for example, when on the Sunday morning following the death
of Pope John Paul, the broadcast which had originally
been planned was replaced by worship in tribute and memory
of the Pope.
And of course we mustn’t forget arriving at the
tradesmen’s entrance of The Trafford Centre in the
dark hours of a chilly December morning, following a phone
call the previous evening, so that we could sing carols
during a pair of live news reports on GMTV.
